Can someone please tell me how to get a recent back issue of the DD? I
need V8 #14, just a few days ago (it kept crashing my system and I had to
delete it--must've been some weird fluke). Please do not respond in the
DD, but in e-mail; I don't want to take up any more space in the DD over
something like this. Thanks, Chris-

Use Megaem015b. The latest version 1.0 doesn't work with the MPU401
drivers from Cakewalk. But 015b works perfectly.

I'm sorry to grab more space on the digest, but forget my post
about my Windows drivers problem. I found the problem. If someone else
is having problems like me, here's what you have to do.
Remove the old GUS drivers.
Restart Windows.
Install new.
I don't think it is documented (I didn't check), but you have to
remove old drivers and restart windows first.

Boy!, since people have been talking about putting a vol-ctrl on the amplified out, I decided to check what it all was about and connected my headphones to it...
I nearly blow my brain out, can't imagine why it's stated in the manual that you can plug 'small headphones' into it, (mines aren't small but that ought to iprove it and not vice versa, or?).
PS. I then plugged, them into line-out and it still sounded to loud but at least tolerable (might be wort a try if you've got similar problems), is it my phones or...

Subject: Is this good?
Ok, I got the newset gusdbas.zip and found my name. It looks like this:
After stuffing around a bit i got the new windows drivers to work, make sure
you copy the new ultrasnd.ini into the c:\ultrasnd directory (or equivalent)
or no patches will load, the installation routine didnt do it automatically
for me.
And also make sure ALL other windows sound drivers except the basic ones are
deleted, even the piano driver if you have it, else no go.
canyon.mid (the midi file that comes with windows) seemed to sound better alrey with the linear volume response on, so well done gravis! the only bother
now is to unvmap all my old midi files.. arrggh
2 questions:
1. To the author of vmap (phat was it?). If we run vmap in reverse mode to get
back to normal linear response, will it be exactly the same as it was before
vmapping, or does vmapping and then unvmapping a midi file change the volumes
a little in the process.
2. WHAT are the functions in the new mixer that wont work on older GUS', what
are these new features of the GUS 3.4 that the old ones dont have?

Subject: Patch 44
In the Ultrasnd.ini file, what is patch 44? The .ini file
lists it as tremolostrings (I think tremstr is the term it
uses). This file, however, does not exist in the midi
directory. I had to change 44 to a different patch in order
to get the new megaem to load. By the way the new megaem is
incredible, xwing sounds amazing, but it seems to slightly
slow down my joystick control. If anyone has the solution
to patch 44 please let me know.

Patchmaker Lite? What's this? a decent patch editor? wow, at last.

I don't like the look of this. Are Gravis going to charge us extra for this
program?
And why Patchmaker LITE? When do we get our hands on Patchmaker Heavi?
(or is that patch.exe<g>).

Considering the Turtle Beach Multisound is in process of discontinuation
(because of the Tahiti and Maui and the fact that the 56K was not a big sales
factor since they never produced any dsp applications or sdk), that the Maui
is not out yet, that the Waveblaster has a worst SNR and smaller sample
pool than the GUS and that the Orchid SW32 sounds pretty crappy it is quite
sad...

Subject: those difficult shots in Epic Pinball
Hello,
This topic isn't really GUS-related anymore, but originally, it was; we were
talking about sound in the game. But then I mentioned about how I can't
intentionally make the left lane shot, and the right sink hole shot in the
game, and asked if anyone knew how to intentionally make these shots. Based
on the flurry of responses I received, it seems like nobody can make these
shots, and each person asked me to tell them if I found out from somebody,
how to intentionally make these important shots. So instead of individually
mailing everyone, I decided to post my findings here (since everybody who
asked the question, saw my original question here first).
Well, the bad news is that nobody knows how to make these shots
intentionally, so I've come to the conclusion that these shots don't require
any skill what-so-ever, and are pretty much left to chance. Oh
well...perhaps if one of the Epic guys reads this, maybe they might take it
as a constructive criticism to not make the crucial (Jackpot and activation)
shots, subject to chance, in their future tables. Or if they have a
suggestion... :)

Subject: Ultramid
I noticed that the list of Ultramid games didn't include Global Domination by Impressions. I've never tried to use Ultramid on a game... until I saw all these .ADV extentions. It worked like a charm and sounds beauuuuuutiful!
This game was awarded the Golden Triad by Computer Game Review so it's good to see it work so well with the GUS.
The thing that bugged me was that it claims to support the ARIA chip, yet the adme says that the driver wasn't ready yet, but would be shipped if you sent in your registration card. On mine I'm going to write "WHY DIDN'T YOU SHIP GUS
DRIVERS THAT WORK ALREADY!"

Subject: User report on MegaEm23b...
Hi all,
Gosh, I missed a few digests there, but am back on I guess.
Wayull, I got MegaEM23b, and......am not having any luck with it.
Seems it's the SB DAC emulation as I tried it with MT-32 or SC and SB, and
with only sb emulation for Xwing, Master of Orion and Task Force. All 3
eventually crashed, SIGH. Posted a msg to the rep on Genie, and HOPE I'm
doing something wrong (yeh, like still being stuck at 256k! No flames,
please!). StarHawk posted me and said he got MOO working (1mb GUS), but I
don't know how far into it he went. He also reported tentative Xwing
problems. Meanwhile, I'm feeling some serious Mega blues...Maybe when this
post appears, it'll be next to glowing reviews from others, I can wap myself
on the head and do the simple fix I overlooked.

Subject: Windows Drivers v1.2
I just tried out the GUS Windows drivers from GUS0035.ZIP (version 1.2).
The infamous "Device Capabilities" defect (which others have doubted the
existance of) has been fixed - the driver now reports Stereo by both means
for both input and output. Pocket Recorder now allows stereo recording,
which previously it did not.
I have not noticed any differences with Microsoft Arcade (but I have not
yet tried restoring the defaults).
As for MegaEm, Microprose World Circuit is not helped at all by the new
